Best Short Break Barge Holidays in the UK

It seems like Britons have been making the most of staycations in recent months to such an extent that it has seen a surge in UK boating holidays. British holidaymakers have been swapping hotels in favour of narrow boat short breaks and switching their driving holidays for canal cruisers.

Stepping into the realm of boating holidays for the first time isn't as daunting as you may think! For novice skippers, with little previous boating experience, you will be amazed at how quickly you can master steering your very own canal boat and become a confident skipper.

When booking a canal boat holiday with us we will give you all the instructions you need. We will take you on a free tuition cruise where you will learn how to operate your narrow boat, work the locks and navigate the waterways along your journey.

We will also give you a copy of the Boaters Handbook and an instructional DVD to help you understand the rules of the waterways and all the health and safety information you need.

The freedom of our waterways

If you want a quick escape to the countryside you can take a long weekend, mid-week break or a week aboard one of our fully equipped comfortable narrow boats. If a boating holiday is on the cards for next year it pays to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Slowing down and pottering along our beautiful waterways is great for reducing anxiety and  far more environmentally friendly than jetting off somewhere abroad.

You can really slow down on one of our canal boat holidays and give yourself time to discover some of the fantastic wildlife and birdlife that exists along the water's edge. The Waterways have much to offer nature lovers, photographers, painters and walkers all those who enjoy the rich beauty of our countryside.

Boating holidays are trending

Although the Wyvern Shipping Co. Ltd. boating holidays have been a popular pastime for many years we are now seeing a younger generation of holidaymakers taking part. Our canal boats are designed and built to be home from home so it is no wonder we are seeing more young families taking a trip with us.

There is no need to leave your family pooch behind either! We accept dogs on some of our canal boats but they do get booked up quickly. If you want to bring your dog with you it pays to book early.

Narrow boat holiday accessibility

We also try our hardest to make our narrow boat holidays as accessible as possible. If you or any of your family members are disabled we don't think this should be a barrier to enjoying some quality time on the water.

For safety reasons, at least two of the crew on the boat should be able (with instruction) to steer the boat and operate the locks. While our canal boat interiors are too narrow for wheelchairs, once onboard our disabled customers can enjoy a safe environment similar to a large caravan. Feel free to contact us for advice about our canal boat accessibility.

Don't forget that we also offer our Waterside Cottage for a short break or weekly holiday if you prefer to watch the water rather than take to the water. This can be an excellent base for your extende
