To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Wyvern Shipping Co Ltd and to promote the proposed canal from Bedford to Milton Keynes the seagoing narrow boat ‘Ocean Princess’ has successfully completed the record breaking 400 mile sea passage from Merseyside to Inverness, Scotland and return. This is the first time a narrow boat has been on the Caledonian and Crinan canals and follows the successful trip last year when ‘Ocean Princess’ went to the Isles of Scilly.
The route taken by 'Ocean Princess' was by canal to the Anderton lift and onto the river Weaver to the Manchester Ship Canal to the river Mersey. Then across the Irish sea, via the southern coast of the Isle of Man, to Bangor in Northern Ireland. Up the Irish coast and back across the Irish sea to the East coast of the Mull of Kintyre for an overnight stop at Cambletown. Then on to the Crinan canal and via Oban to Fort William and the Caledonian canal to Inverness and out onto the Murray Firth before heading back.
The return journey taking 'Ocean Princess' up the Clyde to Inverkip and a two day stop at the Isle of Man before visiting Holyhead and returning via the Menai Straights, the river Dee to Chester, where she joined the Trent and Mersey canal back to Anderton.
July 2004 'Ocean Princess' successfully completes 'Five Kingdoms Cruise'
